VICTRON ENERGY

SmartSolar MPPT 250/70-MC4 VE.Can Solar Charge Controller

Up to 70A of solar battery charging with MC4 PV connections, Bluetooth and VE.Can. Match array limits and battery settings before installation.

Solar battery charging for a larger off-grid array

The SCC125070521 is the Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250/70-MC4 VE.Can solar charge controller. It combines maximum power point tracking with up to 70A of battery charging, integrated Bluetooth and wired VE.Can communication. Choose it for a properly designed solar and battery system in an RV, marine installation or off-grid property where panel strings, battery chemistry and charging equipment need to work together.

Choose the exact PV connection version

This listing supplies the MC4 connection version. It has two pairs of MC4 PV connectors. Those connections share one maximum power point tracker; they are not two independently controlled trackers. Each MC4 connector has a separate 30A limit. Review panel matching, shading, string protection and connector compatibility before ordering.

Calculate cold-weather array voltage

The PV input has a 250V absolute open-circuit maximum at the coldest expected conditions and a 245V maximum for startup and operation. Panel open-circuit voltage rises as temperature falls. Have the installer calculate the complete string voltage for the site; a nominal panel wattage or a warm-weather measurement does not prove that the array meets the voltage limit. Exceeding that limit can damage the controller.

Check both current and panel power

The maximum PV short-circuit current is 35A. Nominal solar power references are 1000W for a 12V battery, 2000W at 24V, 3000W at 36V and 4000W at 48V. These references do not remove the voltage, short-circuit-current or connection limits. The charge-current rating describes the battery side, so it should not be treated as the permitted PV input current.

Configure the battery bank correctly

The controller supports automatic 12V, 24V and 48V battery voltage selection; 36V requires manual selection. Configure charging voltages, current and temperature behavior to the exact battery manufacturer requirements. Lithium installations may also require a compatible BMS and coordinated charging controls. Selecting a lithium profile does not replace battery protection or establish compatibility with every battery bank.

Use local setup and supported system monitoring

Built-in Bluetooth supports local setup and charging-status review through VictronConnect. VE.Direct provides another supported interface, while VE.Can connects to compatible wired monitoring and charging arrangements. Remote VRM access requires suitable GX equipment, a supported connection and internet service. The optional plug-in display, GX device and project-specific communication cables are separate purchases.

Reserve a protected mounting space

The controller measures 215 × 250 × 95mm in height, width and depth and weighs approximately 3kg. Its electronic components are rated IP43 and its connection area IP22. Follow the manual for protected indoor installation, ventilation, clearance and connection sequence. The operating range is -30°C to +60°C, with full rated output specified to 40°C. An enclosure rating does not make the terminal area suitable for unrestricted outdoor exposure.

Package and buying questions

What does this listing include?

One exact SCC125070521 SmartSolar controller. Solar panels, battery bank, BMS where required, protective devices, installation wiring, inverter and optional monitoring accessories are separate.

Will it supply AC appliances directly?

No. This device charges a compatible DC battery system from solar panels. Household AC loads need a separate inverter sized for running and starting loads.

How should I select between Tr and MC4?

Choose the connector arrangement specified by the system design and check the exact model limits. Similar charging ratings do not make the wiring connections interchangeable.
