Choose the Orion-Tr for the job you need it to do

The ORI242440140 is the 24/24-17 Smart non-isolated charger. It provides controlled charging between compatible DC battery systems, including vehicle or boat installations where the starter battery and alternator supply a service battery.

Charge a service battery with an appropriate algorithm

The Smart charger supports an adaptive bulk, absorption and float charging process. Select settings for the battery chemistry and management requirements. Engine-running detection supports suitable smart-alternator installations, but the alternator capacity, vehicle wiring and battery requirements must still be checked before installation.

Configure locally through VictronConnect

Built-in Bluetooth allows configuration and supported status monitoring through VictronConnect. This model does not have VE.Direct, and VictronConnect does not display input or output current for the Orion-Tr Smart. Add suitable separate measurement equipment if current monitoring is part of the design.

Understand non-isolated wiring

This version shares the DC negative connection between input and output. Use it only where a common-ground arrangement is appropriate. If galvanic isolation is required, select the correct isolated model instead of assuming the two versions are interchangeable.

Size the DC circuits for the actual operating conditions

The 17A output rating applies at nominal output voltage and 40°C. Input current, cable sizing and protection depend on the source voltage, load and conversion losses. Provide the specified cooling space and derate above the rated temperature conditions. Do not choose an alternator, fuse or cable from the output-current number alone.

What else is needed?

This listing is for one ORI242440140 unit. Batteries, alternator, battery management, input/output cables, circuit protection, disconnects and any external monitoring equipment are separate. Install with screw terminals facing downwards and follow the enclosure and connection-area protection requirements.

Can this replace an AC inverter?

No. It works between DC circuits. Household AC equipment requires an appropriately rated inverter.

Is this the Smart or standard converter version?

It is the Smart non-isolated battery charger, with Bluetooth and configurable charging. Match the full SKU rather than the Orion-Tr family name alone.

Does it include the installation wiring?

No. Cable lengths and circuit protection depend on the installation. Select them from the manufacturer guidance and the complete electrical design.
