Choose this exact input and output combination

This model has an input range of 16–35V and an adjustable output range of 10–15V. The output current rating is 30A at nominal output voltage and 40°C. Check the minimum available input voltage at the chosen charging-voltage setting: the manual explains that raising output voltage above nominal also raises the minimum input needed to maintain that output.

Use adaptive charging for the selected battery

Charger mode uses a bulk, absorption and float algorithm, with settings selected to suit the battery. Lead-acid and suitable lithium applications are supported when configured according to the battery manufacturer’s requirements. Lithium batteries still need their specified BMS and charging-permission arrangement. A compatible preset does not replace battery protection or commissioning.

Understand the isolated power path

The charger provides galvanic isolation rated 200V DC between input, output and case. The isolated design allows separate input and output chassis grounds where the installation requires them. This differs from the non-isolated Orion-Tr Smart variants. Match isolation to the electrical design rather than selecting only by charging-current number.

Set up locally with built-in Bluetooth

VictronConnect provides local Bluetooth configuration and supported operating information. This model has no VE.Direct port, and VictronConnect does not display input or output current for the Orion-Tr Smart isolated charger. Do not select it expecting the same wired connectivity or current display as an Orion XS. If system-wide current measurement is needed, plan a suitable separate monitor.

Plan source protection and remote control

Engine-running detection can help prevent discharging the starter battery while the vehicle is stopped. Remote on/off control is also supported for the appropriate external control arrangement. Configure those functions for the actual charging source and vehicle. The alternator must have enough continuous capacity after allowing for other loads; the output amp rating is not the input-current requirement.

Compare output ratings at temperature

For this exact model, the manufacturer lists 430W continuous output at 25°C and 360W at 40°C, alongside the nominal-voltage current rating. These values apply under the specified operating conditions and should not be treated as unlimited output at every charging voltage or temperature. Listed efficiency is 88%, and no-load input current is <100mA. Standby current is under 1mA.

Install with the required ventilation and orientation

This 12V-input and/or 12V-output model measures 130 × 186 × 80mm in height, width and depth and weighs approximately 1.8kg. Screw terminals accept up to 16mm² / AWG6 conductors. The operating range is -20°C to +55°C, with a 3% per degree derating above 40°C. IP43 protection applies when installed with the screw terminals facing downward; select a protected mounting position and follow the manual for clearance and wiring.

What is included?

One exact ORI241236120 Orion-Tr Smart isolated DC-DC charger. Batteries, alternator, installation wiring, fuses, disconnects, optional remote switch and separate battery monitor are not included. It is a charger component rather than a complete dual-battery kit.

Can it also supply a regulated DC load?

The unit can be configured for power-supply operation instead of battery-charger operation. Choose the mode and output settings to match the load before commissioning. It is not an AC inverter or a solar MPPT controller. Use the actual voltage, power, isolation and control requirements to choose between Orion models.
