Build a monitored 12V lithium battery system

The BAT512115620 supplies 1920Wh of nominal storage at 25°C in a 150Ah, 12.8V Lithium Iron Phosphate battery. It suits a properly designed RV, marine or off-grid DC installation where the battery bank, charging equipment and protection are selected together. Its capacity describes stored energy under the manufacturer test conditions; usable runtime also depends on discharge limits, connected loads, conversion losses and temperature.

An external NG BMS is required

This battery includes cell monitoring, balancing and an integrated shunt, but it requires a compatible external Victron NG battery management system. The BMS coordinates protection and control of charging and discharging. Purchase it separately and choose the correct model for the planned bank and system current. An older Lithium Smart BMS or an inverter with a lithium setting does not automatically meet this requirement.

Understand how monitoring connects

Battery data travels through the NG communication connection to the compatible BMS. Bluetooth monitoring is provided through the BMS rather than a radio built into this battery. A compatible GX device and internet connection can add supported system monitoring and VRM access. Those devices, their communication cables and internet service are separate from this battery listing.

Match charging and current limits

The maximum continuous charge and discharge current is 150A under the stated conditions. The battery bank, BMS, fuse and cables must all support the intended current; the battery rating does not increase another component’s limit. Charging is permitted from +5°C to +50°C and discharge from -20°C to +50°C. Follow the battery manual for charging voltages and temperature control rather than applying a generic lead-acid charger profile.

Plan the mounting and installation

The IP65 enclosure provides dust and water-jet resistance under its rating. Secure the battery with the supplied mounting brackets or an approved strap arrangement and protect terminals, cables and the rest of the installation appropriately. Use the exact model dimensions when reserving space. This 14kg battery measures 205 × 250 × 205mm (height × width × depth). Follow the manual’s permitted orientation and installation clearances.

What the cycle ratings mean

Victron specifies 2,500 cycles at 80% depth of discharge, 3,000 at 70%, and 5,000 at 50%, with remaining capacity at least 80% of nominal under its test conditions. These figures support comparing battery-use patterns; they are not a guaranteed calendar life or a promise that every installation achieves the same cycle count.

What is included?

One exact BAT512115620 battery and manufacturer mounting brackets. The required external NG BMS, inverter, charger, fuses, disconnects, project-specific power cables and additional monitoring equipment are separate purchases.

Is this a self-contained drop-in battery?

No. Plan it as part of a compatible NG system with external battery management and coordinated charger/load control. Confirm the full equipment list before replacing a different battery.

Does one battery supply 120V household power?

It supplies DC battery energy. Household AC loads require a separate inverter sized for both operating and starting loads. This listing includes no inverter or solar charger.

Can I add it to an older Victron battery bank?

Confirm the exact battery family, capacity, voltage, age and BMS requirements against the applicable manual. Do not assume the NG interface is interchangeable with Lithium Smart batteries.
