Add a dedicated voltage warning point

The Battery Alarm is a small panel intended to monitor battery-bank voltage and provide audible and visual warnings. It can be useful where the battery bank itself is out of view. A voltage alarm reports threshold conditions; it does not measure remaining amp-hours, guarantee battery state of charge or replace the battery protection system.

Set the correct system voltage first

The manufacturer manual documents 12V and 24V settings. Select the matching system configuration using the specified DIP switches before choosing alarm thresholds. Do not assume this panel supports a 48V battery bank simply because other GX products do. Have the installer check the power connection and full installation requirements for the exact panel.

Adjust thresholds and hysteresis for the battery

Low- and high-voltage alarm levels and low-voltage hysteresis are configured using DIP switches. Hysteresis separates the alarm and recovery conditions, helping avoid repeated switching near a threshold. Use the manual’s setting table and the battery manufacturer’s voltage recommendations. A setting suitable for one chemistry or charging profile may be unsuitable for another.

Use audible and visible indication

The front panel has a high-voltage indicator, standby indicator and low-voltage indicator, plus a buzzer on/off selector. Turning the buzzer off changes audible behavior; it does not correct the underlying battery or charger condition. Arrange the panel so the responsible operator can see the warning and take the action required by the system design.

Integrate the potential-free contact correctly

Victron documents a potential-free contact with normally open and normally closed contacts. The manual identifies the PCB J1 common, normally-open and normally-closed connections. Have the installer confirm contact wiring and the connected circuit requirements; do not use the panel as a direct high-current battery disconnect or assume the alarm contact can carry the load itself.

Understand the GX name and package

This item is the Battery Alarm GX retail panel, not a Cerbo GX communication centre or internet monitoring gateway. The manufacturer drawing gives a 65 × 120 × 40mm panel envelope. Check the drawing and mounting instructions for the installation details. One alarm panel is supplied; any external alarm circuit, battery wiring, protective devices and wall enclosure must be planned separately.
