A panel’s “12V” or “24V” class is not a direct battery connection instruction. Use a compatible solar charge controller and confirm the array’s 37.1V Voc, 13.7A Isc and 400W rating against its input limits.

How many panels can I connect in series?

That depends on the controller or inverter maximum PV voltage and the panel’s cold-weather open-circuit voltage. Apply the temperature correction required by the manual and keep the full string below the equipment limit.

Does the rated wattage equal real-world output?

No. 400W is measured under standard test conditions. Sun angle, temperature, shading, soiling, wiring and the connected electronics change actual production.
