Alternator-aware charging for a 12V auxiliary battery

Charge a 12V house battery at up to 20A—or select 10A low-current mode.

The RICH SOLAR RS-DC20 is a 12V-to-12V DC-DC charger for RVs, vans, boats and work vehicles. It regulates alternator power for lithium and lead-acid auxiliary batteries, with a 10A low-current mode for systems that need a gentler load on the source.

Why it stands out

Controlled charging between starter and house systems

Lithium and lead-acid profilesPublished support includes LiFePO4, lithium, AGM, flooded and gel batteries; use the exact profile required by the battery maker.
20A or 10A operationUse full current when the source and battery support it, or low-current mode to reduce charging demand on a smaller alternator or weaker source.
Ignition and temperature inputsThe D+ input coordinates charging with engine operation, while the optional temperature sensor supports compatible lead-acid temperature compensation.

System fit

Plan the two batteries, alternator and cable run as one circuit.

Allow for the 8.4 × 7.4 × 3.1 in enclosure and 4.0 lb weight in a protected, ventilated location. Size input and output conductors from maximum current, run length, voltage drop, terminal capacity and local requirements.

Strong use casesRVs, vans, boats and work vehicles adding a 12V house bank that should charge predictably from a 12V starter/alternator system.

Common questions

RS-DC20 installation questions

Will it charge LiFePO4 batteries?

Yes, a lithium profile is listed. Confirm the exact battery's required charge voltage, temperature rules and maximum charge current before selecting it.

Why use 10A low-current mode?

It reduces charging demand on the alternator and wiring when the source or battery should not support the full 20A setting.

Does it work with a 24V alternator or battery?

No. This model is published for 12V input and a 12V auxiliary battery.

Is the temperature sensor used with lithium?

RICH SOLAR identifies the RJ11 temperature sensor function for temperature compensation and notes it is not for lithium batteries. Follow the battery-specific charging instructions.
